Accident at Exodus Underground Mine Results in Death of One Employee
ELKO, September 4, 2012 – An accident at Newmont Mining Corporation’s Exodus underground mine, 25 miles north of Carlin, resulted in the death of one employee. Allen Campbell, 49, of Spring Creek, died in the accident and is survived by his wife, Julie, and two children, Levi and Jacob. Allen began his career with Newmont in 1988 starting in surface mine operations and later transferred to underground operations in 2001.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our friend and colleague, Allen Campbell,” said Tom Kerr, Sr. Regional Vice President, North America Operations. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Allen’s family and friends, and we will continue providing them support and assistance during this extremely difficult time.”
The accident occurred on Friday, August 31, 2012, at approximately 2:00pm. Officials from the Mine Safety Health Administration and the Nevada State Mine Inspector’s Office were immediately notified and are working with Newmont on the accident investigation to determine the cause.
