827 Students receive GHC 900,000 Scholarship from NADeF
Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation (NADeF) has awarded scholarships to 827 students for the 2011/2012 academic year at the cost of GH.₵ 891,449.44. This brings to 2,335 the total number of scholarships awarded by the Foundation in less than three years. To date, the total amount of scholarships awarded is GH.₵ 2,026,279.01 ($ 1,421,696.56).
Beneficiaries of NADeF Scholarship, all of whom are from communities around Newmont’s Ahafo Mine, are mainly in second cycle and tertiary institutions of learning and are pursuing various programs including Medicine, Geology, Computer Science, Accounting, Marketing, Pharmacy, Sociology, Information Studies, Political Science, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Journalism and Integrated Community Development Studies.
Female students among the beneficiaries are 853 out of which 211 are in tertiary institutions while the remaining are in Senior High Schools. The number of male beneficiaries is 1,482 with 506 pursuing tertiary education while the rest are in SHS.
NADeF anticipates that upon completion, most of the beneficiaries will find various ways of helping in the development of their communities either directly or indirectly.
Currently some of the beneficiaries are undertaking their National Service with Newmont Ghana Gold Limited and other institutions.
