Business Excellence Launches in Nevada
NEVADA - The Business Excellence (BE) initiative is a global effort developed around our strategic foundation of Leverage, Scope and Scale, which is achieved by creating operating and business efficiencies. Starting in 2009, Newmont researched the latest tools and methodologies used by Caterpillar, Cleveland Cliffs, other consulting firms and Six Sigma training groups to aid in the development of a BE structure. By analyzing best practices from these companies, Newmont was able to develop a superior BE program that will help us succeed in reaching our strategic goals. BE is a partnership among operations groups, which uses Continuous Improvement, a Management Operating System, Standards and Standardization and Business Readiness in an effort to improve business efficiencies and deliver on our plans.
Underground Mine Control System Being Implemented in Nevada
DENVER, COLORADO - The Underground Mine Control Team successfully completed MineSuite PIR (Pre-Implementation Review) in Maptek's Denver headquarters. This step was required to ensure the system is fully configured and functional before mobilizing all the resources to the Leeville underground mine in northern Nevada, where we will work in the system implementation for two months. MineSuite is the new dynamic production management system that will enable significant improvements in safety, production and cost at Newmont's Leeville and Midas underground mines.
Leeville Mine Dispatch operators Danny Richardson and Aaron Bailey test the ease of data input and MineSuite's overall look.

Nevada Engineers Visit Newmont’s Ghana Operation
AHAFO MINE, GHANA - Engineering employees Alyson Boye (Senior Ore Control Engineer) and Melissa Harmon (Chief Engineer) traveled to Newmont's Ahafo Mine site in Ghana as part of the Reserves and Resources Review Team. Reserves and Resources Reviews are conducted every two years for each of Newmont's operating sites. The procedure helps evaluate site practices for calculating and reporting resources and reserves to ensure that appropriate technical practices are being carried out and that risk is minimized. The review focuses on Geology, Resource Modeling, Mine Engineering, Metallurgy and general site leadership and reporting.
In addition to assessing risks at each of our sites, the Reserves and Resources Reviews provide an avenue for technical personnel from Newmont's sites to visit and review practices at other operations. Thus, the reviews also serve the goals of best practice sharing, personnel development and talent retention.

Real-time Underground Tracking Continues
Midas is the latest Newmont underground property to receive new wireless communications infrastructure, which enables real-time people and equipment tracking, the deployment of a new voice communication system, process control and automation, and video streaming. Midas joins Leeville on the list of a very few mines in the world using this new mine control technology.
Honored for Supporting Military Employees
In a formal ceremony at Nellis Air Force Base, Newmont received the Pro Patria - the highest state award for employers who demonstrate exceptional support for our national defense. Thanks to the tireless efforts of Phoenix Senior Mine Maintenance Planner Curt Prokasky, a guard member assigned to the 593rd Medium Truck Company, Nevada Army National Guard, our company was recognized for our support.
"I wanted to thank Newmont for its support of all soldiers who work for the company," Prokasky said. "Newmont has continued to support and provide for us and our families during our deployments."
This kind of industry leading performance is what helps make Newmont the most valued and respected mining company, as well as the employer of choice in the industry.
