Working Safely in the Arctic

When Newmont acquired the Hope Bay project from Miramar Mining in 2008, we began assessing health and safety risks, and establishing stringent management and training programs to protect the welfare of our employees and contractors. As this effort evolves, we expect to see reductions in injury rates as we strengthen our approach, and communicate how to safely explore and work in the remote Arctic region.

Doris North Development Put on Hold

Hope Bay is an advanced exploration project that is assessing the viability of further development. To date, three significant gold deposits have been discovered in this greenstone belt: Doris North, a few miles from the Arctic Ocean; Madrid, about 5 miles inland from Doris; and Boston, about 27 miles south of Madrid.
