Life in Asia Pacific

Asia / PacificOur growth in the Asia Pacific region accelerated in the 1990s, with our operations starting up in Indonesia, and continued in 2002, with our acquisition of Normandy Mining. These decisions led us to discover significant gold deposits and strengthen our global asset portfolio.

In Indonesia, we have been fortunate to produce significant amounts of copper and gold from two operations there. Today, we look forward to commencing production at our newest mine, the Boddington project. As the largest open pit mine in Australia, Boddington will bring new jobs and economic growth to this region of Western Australia for the next several years.

We offer work in a variety of disciplines and locations in a dynamic and challenging industry, which offers a myriad of professional, trade and entry-level job opportunities. Newmont seeks people who thrive on challenge, and believe they have the drive and qualities required to keep our company a safe, exciting and successful place to work.

Jundee, Western Australia

Jundee

Jundee is located in the Yandal Goldfield of Western Australia, 800 kilometres (480 miles) northeast of Perth, and approximately 55 kilometres (33 miles) northeast from the township of Wiluna. Jundee began production in 1995. Operations at Jundee were based originally upon open pit mines, with underground operations commencing in 1997. The open pits remained the major source of production until shortly before they closed in 2002. Since then, underground production has increased and a number of small satellite pits have been opened. Mine production, based on current reserves, is scheduled to last through 2010.

The mine employs about 460 people. Given its remote location, the employees work on rosters that allow them to fly in to work for a period of up to 14 days and then fly out for a break. A full-service village provides on-site accommodation. In 2003, Jundee produced 270,000 equity ounces of gold.
