Services staff from Newmont's Subiaco office got down and dirty to help the environment, planting saplings that create natural barriers and help protect Western Australia's beautiful Swan and Canning rivers.
Tax, accounting, legal and HR banded together for their day-long mission as river guardians at Parkerville in Perth's eastern suburbs.
We were looking for a team-building exercise to bring co-workers together in an environment other than the office," said Finance Support Officer Debbie Pascoe. "The opportunity presented itself to become involved in this worthy cause, protecting the Swan and Canning rivers, which are such an integral part of the lives of most West Australians. It was also a great opportunity to support social responsibility in our community and to participate in Newmont's volunteer program." The River Guardians Program connected Pascoe and the other volunteers with Jenny Johnson, a Mundairing Shire Councillor and volunteer organizer for community groups working in bush and streamline revegetation projects. Johnson also chairs the Jane Brook Catchment Group, which is the 'umbrella' strategic group for 35 'Friends of Reserves' groups in the shire.
