Newmont Again Named to Dow Jones Sustainability World Index

Denver, Colorado

For the third consecutive year, Newmont has been selected to be part of the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (World Index). We became the first gold company to join the World Index in 2007, and we also were selected for the DJSI North America Index in 2006, 2007, 2008 and again this year.

The World Index, Dow Jones's premier sustainability index, tracks the performance of 2,500 leading companies, worldwide. It independently evaluates companies' long-term economic, environmental and social performance, publicly identifying the top 10 percent of performers in areas of sustainability.

Companies are evaluated and selected every year through a systematic corporate sustainability assessment that identifies leaders based on a variety of criteria including climate change strategies, energy consumption, human resources development, knowledge management, stakeholder relations and corporate governance.

"Consistently demonstrating industry leadership in our environmental and social performance over the long-term is vital to the ongoing success of our business," said Richard O'Brien, president and CEO. "I am especially proud of our employees whose ongoing commitment to sustainability honors our core values. Year after year, they consistently demonstrate leadership in delivering sustainable value and opportunity for our shareholders, employees and host communities."
