When Newmont began mining gold along the Carlin Trend in 1965, no one could have predicted the impact that it would have on the company, the region and the gold industry. During the next several decades, Carlin Trend became the premier gold district in North America, creating well-paying jobs and economic growth in northern Nevada. The technological advances and refinements pioneered at Carlin fostered a growing gold industry nationwide as well.
Carlin's production highlights include: · 1985: Open pit production at Gold Quarry begins · 2000: Annual production peaks at 3 million ounces · 2008: The combined Nevada operations, which include former Normandy, Franco-Nevada and Battle Mountain Gold properties, produced more than 50 million ounces since start-up of the first Carlin Trend operation · 2010: 45th year of producing gold in the region
Newmont is grateful to all employees, past and present, who have helped us get this far since the first gold bar was poured 45 years ago. We look forward to many more years in Nevada ... and many more ounces to come!
