The International Cyanide Management Institute (ICMI) certified our Ahafo
operation as compliant with the International
Cyanide Management Code (Code). The Code has very specific performance
standards for cyanide production, transport, handling and storage, use and
decommissioning, closure of facilities, worker safety, emergency response,
employee training and dialogue with communities.
Newmont is committed to being a clear leader in the life cycle management of
cyanide, safeguarding human health and protecting the environment by adopting
and upholding these standards. Our operation will be re-audited every three
years to evaluate our continuing adherence to the Code.
Additionally, our Ahafo mine is pursuing ISO 14001 and OHSAS (Occupational
Health and Safety Audit System) 18001 certification.
