Late last year, PT Newmont Minahasa Raya (PTNMR) completed reclamation activities near the former mine area, including planting acres of various trees.
To assess these and other reclamation efforts, the Government of the Republic of Indonesia appointed a team of representatives from the ministries of Forestry, the Environment, and Energy and Mineral Resources, as well from other forestry groups.
The group toured the area to evaluate how it was managed, erosion and sedimentation controlled, and the extent of revegetation, and rated it 93 out of 100 in terms of successful reclamation. As a result, PTNMR has fulfilled its reclamation requirements. Pending approval, the land will be turned over to the government.
