Solidarity in Yanacocha is something to be proud of after mine employees raised $19,000 and the operation matched funds to donate $38,000 to the Fundación Peruana de Lucha de Cancer.

Eduardo Payet, foundation vice president, emphasized the mine's spirit and solidarity, and expressed his gratitude for the support.

In Peru, cancer is becoming important as a public health issue not only because its frequency is increasing, but also for the damage caused to men, women and families. Cancer has become the second most common cause of death in the country.
