TS Power Plant Wins Triple Crown

Dunphy, Nevada

Newmont's TS Power Plant (TSPP) earned three high-profile awards since it began commercial operations in May 2008. The most prestigious honor came after Fluor Enterprises and Newmont Nevada Energy Investment, Ltd. won the Project Management Institute's (PMI) most coveted award, the 2009 Global Project of the Year. This award recognizes the "best of the best" for the accomplishments of a project and the project team for their superior performance and execution of exemplary project management. The award was presented during the PMI Global Congress in Orlando, Florida.

TS Power Plant Wins Triple CrownNewmont's Executive Vice President for Discovery & Development, Guy Lansdown, said, "In addition to being one of the most environmentally responsible coal-based power plants in the nation, the TS Power Plant's construction was a model for worker safety.  Newmont's contractors and employees should be proud of this signature achievement as it will help us achieve our Mission to build a sustainable mining business that delivers top quartile shareholder returns while leading in safety, environmental stewardship and social responsibility."

Earlier last year, Fluor Corporation was awarded the TSPP with its "Hugh Coble Project Excellence Award" in an annual competition among more than 1,500 Fluor projects worldwide. And, shortly after it opened, POWER Magazine, the premier publication of the power industry, selected the TSPP for its Top Plant Award and featured it in the October issue.
