Kalgoorlie Consolidated Goldmines (KCGM) restarted mining along the Golden Mile in Australia more than 20 years ago.
In Kalgoorlie-Boulder, former and current employees, local leaders and community members celebrated the mine's most recent stint of operations at a special event. Russell Cole, KCGM general manager, said the operation's contribution over the past 20 years could not be underestimated.
As the area's largest employer, KCGM has played a major role in developing the local landscape over the past 20 years. Today, the mine is seeking approval to extend mining at its Golden Pike Cutback, which is expected to inject $1.2 billion into the local economy.
