About Newmont

The Pajingo underground mine is located 43 miles (69 kilometers) south of the former gold mining center of Charters Towers, which, is 82 miles (132 kilometers) southwest of Townsville in northern Queensland. Discovered by Battle Mountain Gold in 1983 and operated as a joint venture by Normandy after 1991, the operation became 100% owned by Newmont in February 2002.

An open pit operation commenced at Vera in 1996, with the underground Nancy and Vera ore bodies reached via declines in 1997.

Newmont has increased exploration activity in the Gracelands and Harvest areas as geological information indicates potential for discoveries of ore systems similar to the high grade Vera/Nancy orebodies. Drilling over a strike length of approximately 2 miles (3 kilometers) has intersected high-grade epithermal gold mineralization to depths of more than 2,000 feet (600 meters) along the structure.
