KCGM Places in Underground Mine Emergency Response Competition

Western Australia's top mining teams descended on the Focus Minerals Coolgardie Gold Project for the annual Chamber of Minerals and Energy Underground Mine Emergency Response Competition late last year.

Despite the resources sector having entered a challenging economic period, the industry's commitment to safety was clearly evident. Thirteen teams participated to demonstrate the mining industry's commitment to health, safety and being fatality-free. They were put to the test with realistic scenarios to evaluate their knowledge and skills in fire fighting, first aid, search and rescue, breathing apparatus skills, team skills and theory.

The KCGM crew performed strongly over the two days of competition, taking first place in the category of Team Skills
